Bucker Hill Plantation of Faison

By: Emily Hanke

Faison is home to wonderful attractions such as Southern Exposure Restaurant and Cottle Farms, but one of the most intriguing is Buckner Hill Plantation. It is one of North Carolina?s largest antebellum plantation houses and has kept most of its original features in over 150 years. This stunning home was built in 1855 and is of Greek revival plantation architecture.

Buckner Hill plantation is a shining example of southern plantations that were common in the mid-nineteenth century, but even more interesting is the recent history of the home. The plantation served as the set for the Walker family home in the film version of Rebecca Wells? ?Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood? released in 2002.

Appointments are required to tour the plantation and can be set up by calling 910-293-3001. Visit for more information and to view photos.
